Clwyd Practical Classic Car Show
12th July 2009

The club once again this year had a stand at the Clwyd Practical Classics Charity Car Show, which was held on Sunday 12th July at Barlow’s Caravan Park, Caerwys.

Pat and I arrived just before 9.00am to find Peter Williams already there with the club Easy-up, tables and so on. Soon after Adam Clews turned up with Peters KA rally car and between the four of us we managed to get the Easy-up in place and secured to the ground. Members started to arrive with their cars and by 10.30am all where in place, Myf Owen having to scrounge a lift from Derek Jones to go and pick up his second car, having both his Avenger and his Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII Rally Car on the Stand. Thankfully the weather stayed dry for the day, which made it more enjoyable.

We had a good variety of cars on the stand, from Classics to full spec rally cars and even a Willis Jeep thanks to Dave and Lyn Barnes talking Lyn’s dad into bringing his.  Unfortunately some cars where still in the Isle of Man as they had competed on the Manx Rally that weekend. Eddie Blackwell did manage to get his Sierra to the show by catching the boat the evening before, going straight from the last control of the rally to the ferry with 10 minutes to spare. He did bring some timber back with him as well but you need to speak to Eddie or Gareth Pryce who was navigating for him on the event to find out why (see Picture). As last year we had a prize for best on stand, but to make sure there was no favouritism I approached members of the Capri Owners Club whose stand was next to ours and asked them to decide. When they came back to me and said we like the MG ZS, I thought everybody is going to think this is a fix as the car belongs to my brother Derek, but I assure you it wasn’t. Derek seemed a bit embarrassed when I told him he had won, but if that’s what the judges decide then that’s it. We had plenty of visitors throughout the day with Pat plying them with tea, coffee and doughnuts supplied by Dave Barnes (many thanks Dave).

A big thank you to everyone who turned up during the day who brought his or her cars along and helped out, it made for a great club day out.

Club Chairman, Stuart Jones.
