2007 Clwydian Cars
Driver: Kev Jones Co-driver: Rosalind Goodall
The day dawned bright and clear…well that’s what we
hoped anyway. For me it just dawned too early, I don’t
do mornings!! It wasn’t raining but didn’t look too
hopeful. Picked up by my chauffeur, driver, mechanic…Kev
is always on time and off we set for Traws. Chat on the
way...how many times have you been there
before….seemingly plenty, so happy when I realised I
could just sit there and enjoy the ride for the day and
after an uneventful drive we arrived. What can I say
about the weather…wet, cold, windy, grey and generally
horrible…another normal day at Traws then! Kev kept
saying it was going to be a nice day and not too
worry…hmm not so sure but gave him the nice pacifying
smile thinking ‘o no my drivers lost it…its never going
to be good today’. Anyway no time to worry about it as
lots to do getting set up. At least we didn’t have to
put the gazebo up – we’d have never seen it again if we
had although it might have kept the sheep warm and dry!
A few
words of encouragement at the drivers brief…its new
tarmac last weekend so may be slippery and then we were
at the arrival clock! First few stages went well, no
problems to report and we were lying 2nd
o/a. After a few stages we were chatting to other fellow
competitors about how their day was going and one spoke
about how he was airborne before the flying finish at
the forest end! Gosh say’s me, were you? Apparently we
were too I was then informed by my driver...don’t think
he was too impressed with my powers of observation! Hey
its beautiful scenery I can’t remember everything! The
next time we were approaching the forest end Kev
suddenly pipes up over the intercom “this is where we
get airborne” and tells me he’ll do a running commentary
for me until the end of the stage. Well when we arrived
at the finish clock the pair of us laughing our heads
off…I don’t think anyone at the finish knew what to make
of us we were laughing so much! We ended up sitting
there for a few moments as we were both laughing so hard
we couldn’t drive forward!
Quick
lunch was ready and waiting for us cooked by Clare….she
is always the unsung hero of the day and off for the
afternoon stages. Luckily the afternoon passed without
any major problems…a ‘bit’ broadside coming over the
crest from the forest towards the triangle but we won’t
worry about that!! End of the day and we finished 2nd
overall. We were both very pleased with the result after
an excellent days rallying.
I’d like
to say a BIG thank you to all the organisers and
marshals at the event. Everyone was so friendly and
encouraging it made a good day into a great days
rallying. The event ran very smoothly and there were no
delays at all. I’d also like to say a huge thanks to Kev
and Clare for being ace!
Hope to
see you all next year!!
