Well what a day...
Well what a day, firstly thanks to
the organising team and all marshals, radio and recovery
crews who braved the weather.
Was my 1st time out in 4 wheel drive
and loved every second of it. Had an eventful day with
Andy in car 10, within the first mile we noticed the
distances in the notes where shockingly bad, then hit a
gate post coming down to the bowl. But still we managed
to set a top 5 time on ss1 and ss2.
At the start of the next stage the
car started to over heat so had to back off, found the
fault in service and quickly fixed. On stage 5 we broke
the rear suspension top mount, so losing yet more time.
Back at service the strut had a temporary repair done to
see us through the 10 miles left.

So going in to the last stage we
where 8th O/A 4th in class, we decided to see how it
went and push if everything felt ok. Started the stage
fine pushing on but still on the careful side, over the
top we thought it had broken again but it hadn't it was
just down to the amount of standing water. So as soon as
we started to head downhill Andy pushed on. I can
honestly say I have never been so quick in a rally car.
No big risks just committed. Took the last jump flat
before the last corner over the fliers, the car just
kept drifting out to the edge of the road, we finished
the stage half on and half off the road. But both of us
with big smiles on our faces.
To get back to the finish and see we
had taken such a big chunk of time out of the others in
our class was a great way to finish, just needed another
1 second to get 2nd in class and 5th O/A.
Thanks to Andy and Rob on the
spanners, hopefully another outing together will follow
shortly.

Thanks for the good summary of our
day Steve, glad you enjoyed it, I was a little rusty to
start with, as I had not been out on gravel since last
years Cambrian. Very pleased to be in the top 5 after 2,
shame we had the problems but that's rallying I guess?
Massive thanks to the organisers and marshals, a very
wet day, but everyone was really helpful all day. Sorry
about nearly running the photographer over, get you next
time
